Sirena
A Literary Analysis on “Sirena” by Glock-9 featuring Ebe Dancel focusing in social context. Sirena is one of the hit song in the sixth album of Glock-9 titled “MKNM: Mga Kwento Ng Makata” released by the year of 2012. It is all about a gay person that having a hard time revealing himself to his father. Because during those times being a “GAY” (or bakla in tagalog) was being called the trash of the society. They are not being accepted of the society because of their gender identity. People were thinking that they are just destroying the world. Up until this day being a gay is hard.
Before, they only see men as a masculine type. They are not comfortable seeing a man being a femine type. They are not comfortable seeing a man dressing like a woman. So in their eyes being a gay is a sin.
There is a certain part in the song states “dahil minsan mas lalaki pa sa lalaki ang bakla” it is actually true. Sometimes gay are the one is more responsible than a guy. There are gays that they got pregnant someone by accident but held the responsibility unlike men who run away from the responsibility of being a father. Also there are gays that they are the reason why their family got up from the hardships of life because of their father that being irresponsible. Especially the first born.
Nowadays, some of them are being accepted. We will never lose the unequal view when it comes to gender. There's nothing wrong with being gay, that's what we should keep on our heads because they're only human. Lastly, gays are fun to be with so sometimes they become our stress relievers. But we should keep in mind that gays are just not a clown. That when we are sad they are the one who will make us happy. Through watching the music video of “Sirena” you will realize that there are so many hardships for a gay to get through just to be accepted in this society. So as we go through in this life we should be fair to any gender let's not see the gender as the barrier for a better society.
